I know I've been complaining about being busy, so I just thought I would throw out a sample day in my life. This isn't to make you feel sorry for me, it's just to remind you that if I am being a bad friend right now there is a very good reason.
Tuesday:
5:00am -- Garrett is fussy and I wake up to feed him
6:30am -- Kevin and I both get up and start getting ready for our day (I think I got about 6 hours of sleep). Garrett wakes up, and I feed him. Then I grab my breakfast and head to the pump where I empty the other side (because Garrett only feeds on one side at a time or he vomits).
7:15am -- I help get Delaney ready, dressed, hair brushed, cereal in her "to go" bowl.
7:30am -- I get Garrett squared away in his seat, fill up some bottles for daycare, put together the empty ones that daycare puts his frozen milk into.
7:40am -- I get Delaney, Garrett and Lucy squared away in the Volvo for Kev to take them to school (his hand injury makes it hard for him to do any kid shuttling)
7:50am -- I scurry out the door and run to the bus stop. Just barely make the bus
8:20am -- Children's Lit class where a 30-page unit proposal is due.
10:55am -- Class is over and I run to the bus stop to try and make the :57 bus. I miss it. Sit and wait for 10 minutes impatiently, but all the while checking my work email on my phone.
11:30am -- Arrive home. Make a quick lunch and clean up the mess that was made in the morning.
12:00pm -- Sit down at my computer, answer emails and pump breastmilk.
12:25pm -- Hurriedly clean the pump parts, put bottles away, get water, use the restroom and run out the door to my practicum.
12:35pm -- Arrive at practicum where my professor is observing me, which is hugely stressful, especially because I get asked a zillion questions about the Civil War which I don't know the answer to.
2:50pm -- Leave practicum and hurry home. Prepare my lesson plan for my children's lit practicum which is with a neighbor's kid (essentially being a reading tutor)
3:30pm -- Arrive at my neighbor's house and teach an hour long lesson on literature, themes, plots, etc.
4:30pm -- Rush home and change out of my work clothes. Get on the computer and answer the 54 emails that have come in that day. Work furiously for 40 straight minutes, putting out fires, compiling reports, devising promotions, and making affiliates happy.
5:10pm -- Rush out the door to pick up the kids.
5:40pm -- Arrive home and feed Garrett while Delaney destroys the house.
6:00pm -- Help Kevin with dinner and clean up.
6:45pm -- Feed Garrett again.
7:20pm -- Read Delaney stories and tuck her in.
7:40pm -- Clean up the house from the whirlwind that is two kids.
8:30pm -- Sit down and do business work for an hour.
9:30pm -- Study CU stuff for a half hour.
10:00pm -- Get on the pump one last time for the day to make sure everything is empty and that I don't get mastitis.
10:30pm -- Crawl into bed exhausted with 100 pages to read, of which I will likely only get to 40.
Notice the lack of shower or any me time. I can't remember looking forward to a summer more than I am looking forward to this one. It can't come soon enough!

Out of the darkness
Phew. It's been a while since I've posted and it probably won't get much better for the next month.
We are going on vacation soon for spring break and I'm thrilled and relieved to be getting a week respite away from my hectic life.
I hate to sit here and complain about my busy, busy life because most people I know are busy. Really busy. Especially those with kids. But I can say in all honesty that I have never been this busy in my life, and it's definitely starting to wear on me.
I am a full time student, in 3 different classes, 3 different practicums, a part time worker at my job and the mother of two small children. It's nutso!
But everyone is doing well. Well, except for Kevin who lopped off his pointer finger last weekend only to rush to the emergency room and get it stitched back on. And no I am not kidding about that. He was cleaning his fixed gear bike and the rag he was using got sucked in to the spinning vortex and his finger followed suit. He actually broke the little bone that is the tip of your finger. Poor guy. Probably the worst part of the news was that he will not be able to go in the ocean in Mexico and we're both very sad about that.
Garrett is doing great and looks to be getting his first teeth soon. He's drooling a ton and sleeping through the night about 70% of the time. I'll take it!
Delaney has been super emotional lately and it's made life even more difficult but we're getting through it. I'm actually hoping our time away will snap her out of it.
My classes are great, challenging, interesting and a TON of work. Way more than last semester. But the good news is that it's all useful and interesting work so I look forward to doing it. My job, well, that's another story but you all are familiar with that.
I have been terrible about taking care of myself lately and have barely worked out at all and often go days without showering. Days where I am with Garrett I spend covered in his spit up. My toes are a mess. My hair is a mess.
But the good news is that it will be done in the end of April. Phew. Until then stay tuned and hopefully I will have some more time to post before I come out of the darkness.
